Gleaners Class hosts 1st 2013 meeting
by Martha Sparks
CROOKED CREEK — The Gleaners Class of the Crooked Creek Church of Christ had their first meeting of the year January 8, 2013 in the fellowship hall of the church. The tables were decorated in blue and white.
Hostesses for the evening were Brenda Adams and Debbie Hall. The ladies enjoyed pizza, bread sticks, salad, brownies and carrot cake.
President Brenda Adams conducted the meeting.
The minutes from the December meeting were tabled. Treasurer, Shirley Ruggles gave the financial report and offering was taken up. Prayer for the meeting was offered by Debbie.
Donna Miller gave the devotion for the meeting. Her scripture text was taken from 1 Kings, which tells the story of Elijah, a prophet of the Northern Kingdom of Israel. She refreshed the ladies memory of the story and then explained to the ladies lessons they can learn from the ravens who fed Elijah. She explained how the ravens went against their natural instinct to feed Elijah and how it is against our natural instinct to obey. She said we should follow the example of Jesus. The next lesson to learn from the ravens was that they shared even when it was tedious. We should follow the example that we are to consistently give, not just offer a gift one time and think that is enough. God’s servants give continually to keep the church going. The next lesson learned is that the ravens shared even though they received no recognition for what they did. We should share and be willing to serve even if we do not receive recognition here on earth. We should be assured that God sees what we do and that we will be rewarded one day for all we do.
The ladies will be collecting 100 percent juice boxes for The Goshen Project for the next month.
A Valentine Dinner for the entire church will be held February 3rd after the morning service.
Evelyn Adams made the motion to adjourn the meeting and Rosemary Adams seconded the motion.
Those attending were Brenda Adams, Debbie Hall, Sandy Ray, Sharon Lowe, Karen Dingess, Shirley Ruggles, Evelyn Adams Donna Miller, Rosemary Adams, Diana Brewster, Alfreda Burns, Mary Jane Burns, Peggy Farmer, Ethel Perry and Opal Bell.
