GILBERT — Donald Kenneth Smith, 77 of Gilbert, went home to be with his Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, and his many loved ones waiting for him in heaven, on Monday, February 11, 2013, from Logan Regional Medical Center at Logan.
Born on March 2, 1935 at Glen Alum, he was the son of the late Homer and Ina Carter Smith.
In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by two brothers: Jim and Thomas Smith; three brothers-in-law: Robert Wilson, Cecil Ward and Sam Desantos and four sisters-in-law: Lillie Wilson, Violet Wilson, Wanda Smith and Imogene Smith.
Donald was a loving father and a wonderful grandfather, brother, uncle and friend. He was a member of the First Missionary Baptist Church of Justice and a business owner. He was a 1953 graduate of Gilbert High School and an US Army veteran of the Korean War. He will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Those left to love and cherish the memory of Donald and to mourn his passing include the mother of his children, Shelby Smith of Justice; his son, Mark (Cynthia) Smith of Justice; his two daughters: Lori (Denver) Stacy of Gilbert and Amy (Lee) Vance of Logan; his three grandchildren: Jenna (Curtis) Dukes of North Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, Nicholas Hoff of Gilbert and Marki Lester of Logan; his four brothers: David Smith of Newbury Maryland, Paul (Sandy) Smith of New Kent Virginia, Robert (Faye) Smith of Katy Texas and Ronald Wilson of Bridgeton New Jersey; his five sisters: Mary Ward of Gilbert, Joyce Desantos of Richmond Virginia, Judy (Benny) Ellis of Wharncliffe, Cherie Hannah of Bluefield and Elsie Wilson of Millville New Jersey; many nieces and nephews and a host of other dear family and friends.
Friends may gather with the family at the Mounts Funeral Home Chapel in Gilbert on Thursday, February 14th from 6 pm to 9 pm.
Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Friday, February 15th at the First Missionary Baptist Church of Justice with Rev. Jim Nagy and Bro. Timer May officiating.
Burial will follow in the Hollywood Cemetery at Gilbert.
Matthew Ellis, David Smith Jr., Michael Ward, Roger Smith, Richard Smith, Junior Smith, Chris Swann, Chuck Blevins, Kent Perry and Scott Perry will carry Donald to his final resting place.
Honorary pallbearers are James H. “Buck” Harless, Keevin Walls, Donsie Miller, Jack Bannister, Joe Hatfield, Dewey Walls and Winston Perry.
He is gone from our sight but never from our hearts.
