When he got the call from Sen. Joe Manchin, Richard Ojeda didn’t think he could make arrangements or get permission to go, but when he spoke to his commander, he was told to get ready and go.

There are only 450 people invited to attend the event. Ojeda said he would not have been one of those few if it had not been for LEAD. He believes Sen. Manchin had been watching what LEAD has been doing since last April.

“If it hadn’t been for the nine people who helped to start the program from nothing and do positive things, I wouldn’t have gotten the opportunity. If I could have gotten 50 more tickets, I would have brought everyone with me. It was a wonderful experience, an honor to even be thought of to do something like that.”

Ojeda says watching the gallery fill with the country’s leaders is “awesome.” He says he had a great seat, with a clear line of sight to the president.

Commander Chris Gibson, who is a highly-decorated veteran currently serving as a congressman for the state of New York, served with Ojeda at one time and he was excited to reunite with the commander he described as “a warrior, who earned a Silver Star, Purple Heart and was an awesome commander.”

Ojeda was in awe of Sen. Manchin, saying, “It takes a machine to do what he does. He goes from meeting to meeting to meeting and in between, he is out shaking hands and taking pictures. He is very nice; you can tell he is very nice person. He reminds me of a full-bird Colonel in combat.” He went on to say Manchin’s staff took good care of him and also works non-stop.

While he was in Washington, Ojeda toured the White House and says he got to go places and do things while he was there that ordinary people aren’t allowed to do.

He said it was the experience of a lifetime and he came back to Logan County ready to work.

“We are going to make Logan County the model because we can. Logan County has the potential. We’ve got the most beautiful mountains in the world here. I’ve been to 35 countries and the mountains here are the most beautiful. We have the Hatfield McCoy feud, the Battle of Blair Mountain, the Hatfield McCoy Trails and history. We have so much history in Logan County, people could come here over and over.”

Jack is just jealous he didn't a front row seat like the major had to blow kisses to bow wow. The only thing I would want to see is bow wow in a caged ring with no rules in the WWF. I would like to see bow wow get his butt kicked and would pay top dollar to see it.

The other jealous people couldn't match the major's resume. He was invited by a sitting Senator to view one of bow wow's speeches at the White House, and has been in over 30 whatever countries - which doubled my number! For most of the people - not me - their lives are so devoid of accomplishments they felt inadequate. That's why I don't brag about everything I have done! I don't won't to upset people like Jack.

Pepper, I have no problem with "The Major" being invited to anything. Other types of persons invited by "Joe Blow" type representatives: Ted "P00Ped in his pants" Nugent. It wouldn't surprise me if "The Major" and "P00py pants" Ted set in the same "Pew".

Pepper, you are starting to exhibit a narcissistic personality like your hero. The Major's and your self gratifying attributes about one selves is getting a little repetitive. The readers might think that the two of you are Prima-Donna's with only self serving psychological underlays. Throw in Gary and it would be quite a Dog and Pony show plus a Clown.

Jack........why do you hate me soooo much?? What have I ever done to you? You are clueless! I do not want Sonya's job!! I pray that she does a wonderful job and will finally clean Logan up. She has only been in office for a few months and has already did more than the last guy who slept in that chair. I currently have no desire to run for sheriff. In the beginning I did say that I was interested if things did not change....and I still have that right if I ever choose to do so but right now, my focus has nothing to do with the office of sheriff! I have realized that when you become a sheriff you really only deal with people after they have crossed over into the criminal side. I have spoke about the need for a JROTC program to be re-enstated in Logan and it looks like that may just take place. My focus is wanting to run that program. I would like the opportunity to motivate these young kids before they find themselves out of school with nothing to do except walk down the wrong paths. Kids today are not getting the Values that most of us were educated on when we were growing up. A large reason for this is that we have a lost generation that ranges from the ages of 22-38 that are lost on drugs. Not all of them are but a large portion have made the worng decisions that have impacted their lives and are now bleeding over onto their children. If I get the chance to run the JROTC program I can assure you that I will make it a quality program that will motivate kids towards military servive or college! I will measure my own success by how many scholarships I can seek out and secure for our kids in Logan County. Now I am sure since you have hated me forever, I know that you will immediately come back with "Why should I get the program?".....well, I will be a retired officer with 23 years of honorable and faithful military service towards my country. I will have 4 combat deployments to the Middle East and a Humanitarian Deployment to Haiti. The program needs an Officer and I am a Field Grade Officer! If education is a criteria well I hold a Bachelors Degree from West Virginia State University in Generel Education and a Master's Degree from Webster University in Business and Organizational Security. I am also a graduate of the Command General Staff College where such alumni as Generals Patton, Eisenhour, Schwartkopf and powell graduated from. I think I have the education part sewed up. Now to address one of your earlier comments about mountain top removal. Have I ever said that I liked mountaintop removel???? Are you kidding me? Do you think that I like that corporations have hacked off the top 300 feet of most of our beautiful mountains? Of course not. Unfortunately I do not have a geology degree like apparently you do so I do not know all of the hazards to mountaintop removal. I will tell you that I think that "Friends of Coal" is really a genius program targeting miners to do business in companies that are supported by the big wigs of coal. Nothing else....Friends of Coal has nothing to do with taking care of miners! When they are laid off does Friends of Coal pay their bills? NO! There is a practice that has been going on for years where a man can get laid off in his 19th year and if another company hires him for that last year then THEY take on the responsibility of paying his retirement. No company does so because it would be stupid. The sad thing is, this has been going on for years. If anyone was really a Friend of Coal (Miner) this practice would have been crushed years ago but it hasn't been because the same people who are milking that crime and the same ones that are behind your Friends of Coal! It would seem the major is being noticed! It would also seem that LEAD is growing like a rock cut out of the mountain without hand. If I were the major, I would not want to be photographed with the president; but I would like to be photographed with the president’s teleprompter or the empty seat that Clint Eastwood spoke with. I noticed the major sat in Manchin’s seat nicely. I wonder if the major has any future ulterior motives or plans. I would watch him if I were Manchin. He had a pretty big smile on his face.

I predict this: the major is getting exposure now in the Logan Banner; untold thousands of people read articles in the Logan Banner each day. Why is he doing this? He wants to run for office someday and become the leader of the Mountain State.

None of my big ideas for Logan County have ever materialized, but I keep trying and one day my ideas may be noticed by somebody like Manchin. I would like to see a steamboat ride between Man and Huntington down the Guyandotte River. A good entrepreneur could buy the Mark Twain steamboat from Disneyland and offer it as a relaxing ride down the Guyandotte. I’m surprised that someone like the major isn’t thinking of great ideas like this himself. Think of the jobs it would create.

Pepper, you mean that LEAD is growing like Mountain Top Removal Mining. If "The Major" would advocate something positive like the end to Mountain Top Removal Mining in Logan County, then I could support my Military Brother. The problem is, that he is nothing more than an opportunist, meshing with the political corrupt. I actually don't disagree with his method, it works in Logan County. I don't see any obstacles in the way of "The Major" until his Family history becomes relative. I personally don't believe that Family history should be a factor in a persons expectations in life, but there is those that would Blackguard anyone for anything, just for the pure meanest. The Major has make it clear that he wants Sonja Porters job. Pepper, as your imaginary ride down the Guyandotte River on a Steam Wheeler, the Branchland Falls were blow up in the early 1860's and Locks were build in anticipation of River boat travel. The C&O railroad put a stop to navigation on the River, this would cause competition with the removal of Coal from our region. It's okay Pepper, you can continue to fantasize and day dream about your "big ideas" for Logan County.

DID YOU EVER CONSIDER THAT ALL YOUR LOCAL "HISTORY" HAS TO DO WITH KILLING? WHY DO YOU PEOPLE STILL EXPLOIT THE HATFIELDS AND MCCOYS FEUD IT WAS AN UNCIVILIZED UNLAWFUL GROUP OF TRASHY PEOPLE WHO MURDERED EACH OTHER AND THUMBED THEIR NOSES AT THE LAW (OR BRIBED LAW OFFICERS) IT CERTAINLY IS NOT SOMETHING TO REMEMBER OR HONOR

Will, you have to understand that nothing has changed since the Hatfield/McCoy Feud.

There are many other people who have done community service for Logan for many years. Why don't we see stories about them? Sick of hearing about how great The Major is. It is all politics. I would rather see 50 kids get new affordable shoes than 10 kids get $100 pairs of shoes. It is all about appearances.

It is good to know that there are good men and women that are willing to step forward to make changes in any community. I have read many of your writings when you were in Afganistan, and Prayed that God would allow you to come home and help restore it to the way we remembered it. May God bless you greatly.
