CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. — Mr. Robert C. “Bob” Hainer, 82, of Chapmanville, was born October 3, 1930, at Henlawson, a son of the late Victor and Beulah Perry Hainer. He departed this life Thursday, February 28, 2013, at his residence.

Mr. Hainer was a member of the Victory Freewill Baptist Church, retired from the Logan County Board of Education having been a teacher in welding and mine maintenance at the Vocational School at Three Mile Curve, Logan, attended WV Tech, was a 1949 graduate of Logan High School, a veteran of the US Navy, a 32nd degree Mason and member of the Aracoma Lodge No. 99 AF&AM. In 1953 Bob was awarded a citation for heroism while serving aboard the US Leyte because of an explosion on October 16, 1953, aboard the ship and Bob rescued many for which he was cited.

Also preceding him in death were sisters, Patricia Townsend and Mary Peyton.

Survivors include his wife, Lillian L. Thomas Hainer; children, Glenn Paul (Angie) Hainer of North Carolina and Bobbi (Lucian) Lucas of Chapmanville; special grandson, Christopher Oliver; brother, Harley K. (Euvelee) Hainer of Chapmanville; grandchildren, Robert, Justin, Sean and Brandon Hainer, Kristi Hunter and Amanda Akers; great-grandchildren, Alexis, Alara and Jake Hainer, David and Bethany Hunter and Tyler Akers and a host of special nieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be held at 7 p.m. Monday, March 4, at Evans Funeral Home and Cremation Services with Rev. Roscoe Chafin officiating.

Visitation will begin after 6 p.m. Monday at the funeral home.

Evans Funeral Home and Cremation Services of Chapmanville is serving the Hainer family.
