NIOTA, Tenn. — Wendell Ray Simpson, 69, went home to be with his heavenly Father Sunday, March 3, 2013, at his home in Niota, Tenn. He was surrounded by his loving family.
Born October 19, 1943, he was a son of Colie and Ellen Smith Simpson.
A native of Gilbert and a longtime resident of Niota, Wendell served in the United States Army and was honorably discharged in 1967. He was a longtime truck driver and last employed by Purdy Brothers Trucking Company of Loudon, Tenn.
Survivors include his loving wife of 45 years, Agnes Goff Simpson; one daughter, Jennifer Head of Niota; two sons, Shawn (Goff) Simpson and Lori Goff and Jeff and Christie Simpson, both of Niota; eight grandchildren: Desirae and Shawn Goff, Wesley, Wyatt and Savannah Head, and Anabella, Abigail and Arreanna Simpson; one great-granddaughter, Larrajaѐ Goff; two brothers, Randle (Penny) Simpson of Gallipolis, Ohio, and Kendall (Waletta) Simpson of Gilbert; three aunts: Lena May, Pearl Vincent and Martha Smith; a host of nieces, nephews, and cousins and many other friends and loved ones.
Funeral services will be held at 1 p.m. Thursday, March 7, at the Hanover Missionary Baptist Church with Pastor Jackie Lester officiating. Burial will follow in the East Kermit Cemetery.
The family will receive friends from 6-9 p.m. Wednesday at the church.
Pallbearers will be Gene James, Cole Simpson, Chase Simpson, John Goff, Larry Goff, Rodney Goff, David Hall and Anthony Fields.
