Chapmanville baseball suffers first loss of season

The Chapmanville Regional High School baseball team suffered its first loss of the season last Saturday as the Tigers lost 11-1 at Ripley.


Chapmanville (5-1) had swept a home doubleheader last Friday at home with 7-2 and 11-1 victories over Cardinal Conference foe Tolsia.


Class AAA Ripley (3-5) plated four runs in the first inning and never looked back in posting the win in five innings.


Freshman Jared Bumpus pitched the win for the Vikings, allowing one earned run and three hits with four strikeouts.


Cody Pittenger, another Ripley freshman, doubled twice. Frosh Christopher Jordan singled in a run.


Scottie Thompson rapped out a pair of hits for the Tigers.


Ripley outhit Chapmanville 6-3.


Dustin Conley started on the hill for the Tigers. Chase Roberts and Tristan Thompson pitched in relief.


Chapmanville was scheduled to see action again on Monday night at Herbert Hoover. The Tigers host county rival Man on Wednesday at 7 p.m.


No statistics were available from the two Tolsia games.

The Man High School baseball team lost 4-3 at Lincoln County last Friday and fell 15-1 at Charleston Catholic on Saturday.


Man dropped to 0-3 on the season.


Homestanding Charleston Catholic exploded for 10 runs in the second inning in Saturday’s rout.


The game was shortened to five innings due to the 10-run mercy rule.


Thad Jameson was 3-for-3 for the Irish with a double and three RBI. Kiefer Hovorka and Rocco Wilcox had two hits apiece.


Kenny Joe Adkins had a double and drove home the lone run for the Hillbillies.


Man committed no errors in the game. Catholic had two errors.


Noah Maynard paced the Billies in the Lincoln County game as he was 2-for-3.


Matt Huffman was 3-for-3 for the Panthers (3-1) with a double and two runs knocked in. Grant Bates also had two hits and an RBI.


Lincoln County had two errors in the game. Man was error-free.


The Billies are scheduled to host Belfry (Ky.) on Tuesday at 6 p.m. Man then goes to Chapmanville on Wednesday for a 7 p.m. contest. against the county rival Tigers. The Billies won 17-1 at Chapmanville in last year’s meeting at Ted Ellis Field.

The Chapmanville Regional High School softball team dropped its third straight game with Saturday afternoon’s 6-0 loss at Class AAA No. 4-ranked Lincoln County.


The Class AAA No. 3 Lady Tigers fell to 3-4 on the season with the loss. Chapmanville has been outscored 20-2 in its last three games.


Brooke West hit a pair of doubles and drove in a run for Lincoln County. Morgan Hutchison had two hits.


Cydnee Lambert ripped a double for Chapmanville, which had four hits in the game.


The Lady Tigers are scheduled to return to action on Tuesday at home against Mingo Central. Game time is set for 6 p.m. at Chapmanville’s Ronnie Ooten Field.

Invitational


The CRHS softball team is scheduled to host the Corey “Bird” Price First Responders Lady Tigers Invitational tournament this Wednesday through Saturday at the Chapmanville varsity field and at the Chapmanville Middle School diamonds.


The host Lady Tigers are scheduled to open the 15-team tourney on Wednesday at 7 p.m. against Ritchie County.


Chapmanville then plays Nicholas County on Friday at 9 p.m. before playing a pair of games this Saturday against James Monroe at 11 a.m. and Lincoln County at 7 p.m.


County teams Logan and Man are also in the field.


Several of the top ranked teams across the region and state are slated to play in the tourney, inlcuding Buffalo, Chapmanville, Herbert Hoover, Hurricane, James Monroe, Lincoln County, Logan, Man, Nicholas County, Pikeview, Poca, Point Pleasant, Ritchie County, Sissonville and Wahama.


Class AAA Hurricane was second in the state in last week’s coaches poll, while Lincoln County was fourth.


Hoover is second in Class AA, while Ritchie County is fifth.


Buffalo, the two-time defending Class A state champions, enter the tournament ranked No. 1. Man is third in Single-A.


The Lady Tigers Invitational begins with two games on Wednesday as Poca takes on Ritchie County at 5 and CRHS plays Ritchie County at 7 p.m. at the Chapmanville Regional High School softball field.


Action picks up on Thursday with two more games at the CRHS field as Man takes on Ritchie County at 5 p.m. and Lincoln County battles with Ritchie County at 7 p.m.


A total of nine games are scheduled to be played on Friday.


At the CRHS field, Herbert Hoover is set to play Point Pleasant at 5 p.m. Logan battles with Lincoln County at 7 and host Chapmanville takes on Nicholas County at 9.


On Friday at Chapmanville Middle School’s Field 1, Nicholas County plays Pikeview at 5 p.m., Buffalo squares off with Sissonville at 7 and Hurricane battles with James Monroe at 9.


Three games are set to be played on Friday at Field 2 at the Chapmanville Middle School Softball Complex beginning with the Poca vs. Wahama game at 5 p.m. Man plays Wahama at 7 and Lincoln County is set to play Sissonville in the nightcap at 9 p.m.


A total of 12 games are scheduled to be played on Saturday in the Lady Tigers Invitational.


Five games are slated to take place at CRHS beginning with the Chapmanville-James Monroe contest at 11 a.m. Hurricane battles with Sissonville at 1 p.m., while Logan takes on Poca at 3. Herbert Hoover is set to play Hurricane at 5. Chapmanville and Lincoln County face off at 7 p.m. in the nightcap.


On Saturday at the CMS Field 1, four games are to be played, including: Herbert Hoover against Logan at 11 a.m.; Buffalo vs. Wahama at 1 p.m.; James Monroe against Point Pleasant at 3; and Nicholas County vs. Point Pleasant at 5.


Three games are on tap at CMS Field 2 on Saturday, including: Man against Poca at 11 a.m.; Man vs. Pikeview at 1 p.m. and Buffalo against Pikeview at 3.
