Logan girls beat James Monroe 2-1 in 11 innings

It was a classic game on Thursday night at the Logan Softball Complex as the Logan High School softball team won 2-1 over James Monroe in 11 innings.


Logan (3-4) won the game in the bottom of the 11th inning as Sam Curry came up with the game-winning RBI.


The teams were supposed to play a second game in the scheduled doubleheader but the contest was suspended in the third inning by rain with Logan leading 5-0.


It is not known if the game will be completed at a later date.


The Lady Cats’ Shana Hall was the winning pitcher for Logan in relief. She came on in the ninth inning and struck out three while allowing two base hits. Hana Sedlock was the starter on the hill as she went eight-plus innings, striking out 11 and allowing no hits.


Sedlock also had a double for Logan at the plate.


Rachelle Toppings, Aarron Ward and Curry had one hit each for the Lady Cats.


Logan was scheduled to play in Chapmanville’s Lady Tigers Invitational on Friday and Saturday.


BASEBALL


Valley Fayette 13,


Man 3


The Man High School baseball team dropped to 0-6 on the season with Thursday night’s 13-3 loss at Valley Fayette in five innings.


Cody Winter went 4-for-4 with two doubles and two RBIs and Druw Bowen smacked a home run and drove in four runs to lead the Greyhounds past the Hillbillies.


Raeshawn Breckenridge also ripped a home run and Arik McGinnis added a triple in the winners.


Druw Bowen was the winning pitcher for the Greyhounds. He allowed five hits and struck out nine Man batters.


Cayce Mullins led Man with a home run and two RBI.


Valley Fayette had 11 hits in the game and improved to 8-2 on the season with the win.


Man committed two errors. The Greyhounds had one.


Mullins was the starting and losing pitcher for Man. He was relieved by Mikle Rowe in the second.


Valley plated two runs in the first, six in the second and two more in the third to take an 8-0 lead.


Bishop Grimes (N.Y.) 3,

The Logan High School baseball team dropped to 4-3 overall and 1-2 in the Mingo Bay Classic with Friday afternoon’s 3-1 loss to Bishop Grimes (N.Y.) in the spring break tourney at Myrtle Beach, S.C.

 Logan’s Troy Burgess allowed three unearned runs in five innings pitched as he struck out eight and walked one. The Wildcats committed seven errors in the game.
Chase Preston pitched two scoreless innings in relief.
Logan scattered five hits in the game and could score only one run.
The Cats were scheduled to be back in action on Saturday before heading home.
Logan was slated to play Bishop Grimes on Thursday but the game was rained out and moved to Friday.
* Man High School’s home baseball game with Lincoln County was canceled due to poor field conditions. Saturday afternoon’s game at Midland Trail was also called off.
The Billies (0-6) host Logan on Wednesday at 7 p.m.
* The Chapmanville Regional High School baseball team was scheduled to play at doubleheader at Mount View on Friday but the game was called off and moved to May 3 in a twinbill at Chapmanville.
The Tigers are 7-2 and won 8-0 on Thursday at Belfry (Ky.) in a game which was added to the schedule.
Chapmanville was slated to go to Clay County on Saturday.
The Tigers go to Class AA sectional rival Scott on Monday in a 6:30 p.m. contest before hosting Poca on Tuesday at 6:30 p.m. at Ted Ellis Field. Both are Cardinal Conference games.
