The Man High School softball team went to Charleston Catholic on Monday and cruised to an 11-1 victory over the Irish.


Man (6-1) got a 2-for-3 effort from Summer Sword, who also doubled.


The game was stopped after four innings due to the 8-run mercy rule.


Tabby Ferguson had a pair of hits for the Lady Billies.


Ally Persily had a double for Charleston Catholic (6-4).


The Lady Billies were scheduled to host Tug Valley on Tuesday night. The Lady Panthers are Man’s new Class A sectional opponent.


Man then goes to Class AAA county rival Logan on Wednesday for a 6 p.m. game at the Logan Softball Complex.


Man then plays at Buffalo’s Best of the Best Tournament on Friday and Saturday.


Wayne 9,


Chapmanville 0


It was no contest on Monday night at Chapmanville as Wayne blanked the homestanding Lady Tigers 9-0 at Chapmanville Regional High School’s Ronnie Ooten Field in a makeup game.


The game was a rematch of last year’s Class AA regional semifinals which was won by Wayne. The Lady Pioneers then went on to win the state championship.


The Lady Tigers dropped to 6-8 on the season with the loss. Wayne improved to 7-3.


Chapmanville is just 3-7 in its last 10 games.


The Lady Tigers, which went 2-2 last week in their own home tournament, dropped out of the top 10 in this week’s Class AA coaches softball poll.


Chapmanville now stands at 3-3 on the season in Cardinal Conference action.


Wayne scored all nine runs in the top of the third inning and were aided by four CRHS errors.


Caitlin Elkins led the Lady Tigers as she was 2-for-2 at the plate.


Chapmanville is scheduled to play at Class AAA Point Pleasant on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. before heading to Buffalo to take part in the Best of the Best tourney.


In the Best of the Best, the Lady Tigers are set to take on 3A Lincoln County and Parkersburg South on Friday at 2:30 p.m. and 4:15 p.m. respectively before battling with 2A Nicholas County on Saturday at noon.


Point Pleasant 5,


Logan 1


The Logan High School softball team was beaten 5-1 on Monday night at Point Pleasant.


Point, winners of six out of its last nine games, improved to 7-5 on the season.


Logan, which has lost six out of its last nine since a 2-0 start, dropped to 5-6.


No further details were available on the game.


The Lady Cats were scheduled to play at Class No. 4-ranked Sherman on Tuesday night. Logan hosts Man on Wednesday at 6 p.m. and Scott on Thursday at 5:30 p.m. before taking part in the Best of the Best Tournament at Buffalo this Friday and Saturday.


At Buffalo, Logan plays University and Shady Spring on Friday at 3 and 5 and then battles with Class A No. 1 Buffalo on Saturday at 1 p.m.
