The Chapmanville Regional High School track and field team had a successful showing last weekend at the prestigious Gazette Relays at Charleston’s Laidley Field.
“It was a pretty big event,” Chapmanville coach Joetta Thompson said. “We did very well as a team at the Gazette Relays. Almost my whole team had personal bests on their times. Our field events has work to do to get better but we are getting there.”
Chapmanville senior Autumn Baisden took fourth place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.33 and was fifth in the 200-meter dash with a time of 28.78.
Freshman Christina Osborne was fifth in the 100-meter dash with a time of 14.35.
First-year track athlete Mara Mazzocchi, a sophomore, was sixth in the 400-meter run with a personal best time of 1:05.74. She also had a personal best time in the 800-meter run with a time of 2:46.77.
The Chapmanville girls’ 4x100 team took sixth with a time of 59.93 seconds. The team consisted of Baisden, Osborne, Candice Adkins and Haley Rakes.
The Lady Tigers’ 4x200 relay team took fourth place with a time of 1:58.15. The squad was made up of Baisden, Osborne, Adkins and Codi Conley.
On the boys’ side, sophomore Devin Wiley came in third place in the 100-meter dash with a time of 11.95. Freshman Ethan Thompson was sixth in 12.25.
In the 200-meter dash, Chapmanville senior Andrew Workman was second with a time of 23.76.
In the 400-meter dash, the Tigers’ Andrew Thompson did not place but scored a personal best time of 1:00.23.
Alex Maynard also had a personal best time in the 110-meter high hurdles with a time of 22.14.
The Chapmanville boys’ 4x100 relay and 4x200 relay teams were both second place. Wiley, Ethan Thompson, Workman and Zach Thompson made up both teams. Their times were 46.92 and 1:36.95 respectively.
The CRHS track team was scheduled to compete in the Cardinal Conference meet on Thursday night at Poca.
