CULLODEN, W.Va. — Daniel Joseph “Joey” Bassham, 58, of Culloden, passed away peacefully Monday afternoon, May 6, 2013, at Emogene Dolin Hospice House of Huntington.


Born March 14, 1955, in Logan, he was a son of Margie Bassham of Logan and the late Paul Bassham of McConnell.


Joey was a 1973 graduate of Man High School and was looking forward to his 40th class reunion this summer. He enjoyed going to the beach and visiting family and friends, reading and watching NASCAR races. He also liked to cook and was known in the family for making the “best spaghetti sauce”. He worked in Logan County as a coal miner for many years.


Additional survivors include his life companion, Linda Cook Dent and her daughter, Stacy Dent, both of Culloden; grandson, Ethan, whom he loved and enjoyed spending time with; brothers, Charles (Linda) Bassham of Atlanta, Ga., Paul E. Bassham of Florence, S.C., David Bassham of Huntington, Rick (Vicky) Bassham of Foster, Tim Bassham of Wheeling; sisters, Dora Leigh (Don) Deskins of Daniels, Angie Bassham of Man, and Vicki (Ron) Deardorff, of Titusville, Fla., along with numerous nieces and nephews. He will be greatly missed by all.


A celebration of Joey’s life will be held at 6 p.m. Friday, May 10, at Krantz-McNeely Funeral Home in Man.


There will be a gathering of family and friends from 5 p.m. until time of service Friday at the funeral home.


In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Hospice House of Huntington.
