CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. — Pastor John M. Stafford, 58, of Chapmanville, went home to be with the Lord Friday, May 10, 2013, at Logan Regional Medical Center from an extended illness.


Born November 22, 1954, at Lake, he was a son of the late Tom and Delca Thompson Stafford.


A well-known pastor and evangelist of 38 years, he was pastor of The Church Jesus Christ of Chapmanville for 19 years, and a disabled coal miner. John loved hunting, fishing and won many awards for his archery skills. Most of all he is known for his love of God, his honesty, sincerity and love for his family. He will be missed by all of those who knew him, loved him and by his church family whom he dearly loved.


Survivors include his wife, Sandy Younce Stafford, who was the love of his life for 39 years; daughter, Johnna (Charles) Perry; a special daughter, Chrystal Wooten; three very special granddaughters, Hanna, Darla and Tommie Elyssa Wooten, whom he loved dearly; two brothers, Rev. Tom (Shirley) Stafford of Dearborn, Mich., and Charles Stafford of Meadow Bridge; four sisters, Barb (Verrell) Dean of Hammel, Ind., Linda Hughes of Turtle Creek, and Brenda (Thomas) Jarrell and Janice (Ronnie) Burgess, both of Meadow Bridge, and many nieces and nephews.


Graveside services and burial will be at 11 a.m. Tuesday at the Highland Memory Gardens at Godby with Assistant Pastor Stanley Adkins officiating.


A visitation and celebration of John’s life will beheld from 6-9 p.m. Monday, May 13, at The Church of God in the Name of Christ Jesus at Trace Fork with his best friends, Pastor Gary Toler, Rev. Damon Murphy, Bro. Bobby Laws and his Assistant Pastor, Stanley Adkins officiating.


Pallbearers will be Bo Hogston, Junior Adkins, Josh Adkins, Junior Wooten, Chris Thacker and Ernie Thacker.


Evans Funeral Home and Cremation Services at Chapmanville is serving the Stafford Family.
