Two West Virginia State Police officers were investigating a stolen four wheeler in the community of Mud Fork on May 9.

The criminal complaint says the officers were speaking with Manual Evans Jr., 35, of Mt. Gay, when he became belligerent and verbally threatened the officers.

When they attempted to detain Evans, he pushed away and fled into his residence. The officers followed him into the residence and once again tried to detain him. Evans refused to give the officers his hands, so they had to forcefully place his hands into handcuffs. Evans had slurred speech and the odor of alcohol emitting from his person during the incident.

Evans was arrested and charged with two counts of obstructing, two counts of assault on a police officer and two counts of battery on a police officer. His bond was set at $5,000.
