CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. — Auston Joe Marcum, 21, of Chapmanville, departed this life Monday, May 20, 2013, in an automobile accident at Phico.


Born July 9, 1991, in Logan, he was a son of Houston Doc (Rebecca) Marcum of Switzer and Glema Marie Marcum (companion Al Alcantara) of Monrovia, Calif.


Preceding him in death was a very special great-grandmother, Nellie Likens; his grandfather, John Henry Marcum, and an aunt, Sherry Lynn Smith.


Auston loved his wife, daughter and family dearly. He enjoyed spending time with his brother-in-law, Jacob Canterbury. Auston was a graduate of Logan High School and loved all of his friends, he was a very happy person. Auston had a very special and close relationship with his grandparents, Danny and Dorothy Smith, whom he resided with most of his life. He loved music and outdoor sports, talking with his friends, fishing and most of all spending time with his wife and daughter.


Additionally, those left to cherish his memory include his wife, Victoria Canterbury Marcum; his 8-month-old daughter born September 11, 2012, Aubrey Jade Marcum; grandparents, Danny Joe and Dorothy Smith of Chapmanville and Lance and Alfreda Skutt of Rossmore; two brothers, Brandon Joe Marcum of Switzer and Danny Joe Marcum of Sarah Ann; first cousin, Tiffany Nicole England; one step-brother, Levi Webber of Switzer; two step-sisters, Shiloh Houston Marcum and Susan Glasby, both of Switzer; one nephew, Bradley Blake Marcum of Switzer; his father and mother-in-law, Sherman Jr. and Kimberly Canterbury, and a host of aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.


Services will be held at noon Saturday, May 25, at Freeman Funeral Home with Basil Goodman officiating. Burial will follow at Guyan Memorial Gardens at Godby.


Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Friday at the funeral home.


Pallbearers will be Corey Adams, Camaron Butcher, JT Tomblin, Jeremy Nida, Danny Joe Marcum, Brandon Marcum, Houston Marcum and Zach Browning.
