How full are the summer months? They are filled to the brim. Filled with what?
Fun at the swimming pool, lessons teaching us to swim and be safe. For others it is learning how to play tennis, golf or how to ride a horse, drive a car, ride a bicycle, sail a boat, taking special classes to become proficient with the computer, archery, mathematics, writing or making up a class we flunked.
For football players, it means getting the body in good shape for the coming season or taking extra classes to be eligible. It is time to get some rest, eat right, develop some good habits and lose excess pounds. Spend some extra time with family members, attend family reunions and visit with your grandparents.
Summer means lots of extra travel. Before I was married, I would be the featured speaker for as many as four teenage youth camps in one summer, direct the recreation program for other camps and be a conference leader. After Kitty and I were married, June 4, 1955, it was more travel than we ever expected.
Three weeks later, we sailed for Europe, one week going and one week coming back across the Atlantic and five weeks traveling in Europe, primarily for the First World Conference of the Church of God in Fritztlar, Germany. This summer we will attend another Global Conference in Anderson, Indiana, with thousands of others and representatives from 70 other nations.
Many young people, primarily high school, college and young professionals will be involved in service projects throughout the world. One of our granddaughters will be in 11 countries in 11 months doing missions work. She must raise $15,500 for that trip. That means grandparents like Kitty and me are trying to help her raise those funds. Many friends and family members will do all they can to help and I invite you to participate with me.
There will also be many weddings. My advice? Make sure you have a job that will support you two, a man and a woman. Same sex marriage is contrary to everything we know to be good about marriage. That is totally contrary to the Bible. It is not right no matter what any political ignoramus has to say about it.
Marriage is between a man and a woman. Be sure of this also, when you marry, you marry the whole family. Make the right choice. Ignorance leads to all kinds of trouble for individuals, families and nations.
Summer months offer a good time for lots of reading. I go first to Warner Press that produced the world famous Egermeier’s Bible Story Book, the one Ruth Graham, Billy Graham’s wife, read to their children. They also published my favorite novel, Banda “Kidnapped in Ghana” Mission, by Ruben Schwieger and The Holy Spirit within Us by Bill C. Konstantopoulos. Check with your favorite bookstore, or call Warner Press at 1-800-741-7721 or email firstname.lastname@example.org.
Additional publishers of choice books would include Thomas Nelson, Zondervan, Westminster, Moody Press, Lifeway, Broadman, Judson, Crossway, IVP, Baker, Abingdon, Tyndale and many others.
A book I keep close to my desk is The Boy Scout Handbook, published by the Boy Scouts of America.
One of the finest books I have read on missions is titled Flaming The Fire by James A. Albrecht, veteran missionary and leader of the Church of God. It is down-to-earth, easily understood. Get this superb book by calling the author 765-642-6409 or e-mail email@example.com. Enjoy enriching summertime reading.
Make a good choice, the best you can, about every thing you do this summer. Have the most successful summer of your life.
