A routine road patrol by the West Virginia State Police led to a drug arrest.

On May 21, WVSP officers were in Holden when they observed a 2001 Ford Taurus with a defective brake light and expired registration. During the traffic stop, officers detected the smell of marijuana coming from within the vehicle while talking with the driver, Thomas Tolliver, age 19 at the time, of Logan.

Officers requested the occupants of the vehicle to exit so as to do a weapon search. When asked if there was anything the officers needed to know, the accused responded “’Yes, I have a bag of marijuana in my shorts.”’

Officers located a large bag containing approximately 104 grams of marijuana, a small bag containing seven Schedule IV pills, one Schedule II pill and $123 in US currency. Officers also located nine sublingual film Suboxone and $52 in currency in a separate pocket.

Tolliver was booked on three counts of possession with intent to deliver. His bail was set at $30,000.
