A little guy that has been such a “hero” and an inspiration to so many in the local area is getting a block party at this year’s West Virginia Freedom Festival that will inspire him.

Four-year-old Joshua “Gabe” Lyall, the son of Josh and Erina Lyall, has been battling tumors that have invaded his heart, liver and lungs. A biopsy on his liver confirmed the tumors as being stage four hepatoblastoma, which is a rare liver cancer in children.

Young Gabe is also huge superhero fan and had his story published in a number of Marvel comic books this year.

The annual block party is hosted by local DJ Bill France.

“I have been following Gabe’s story,” France said. “I was discussing an idea I had with Freedom Festival co-organizer Amber Miller-Viars about a month ago. We came up with a huge superhero block party concept for this year’s festival.”

Gabe will be honored at the party. France says he is encouraging people to wear superhero shirts or even costumes to the event on Saturday, July 6, from 6-8 p.m. in Downtown Logan.

“This little guy has inspired and touched so many of us,” France said. “This is our chance to inspire him.”

France says the entire block party is being given a superhero twist.

“There will even be super hero themed prizes,” France said.

The West Virginia Freedom Festival will begin Thursday, July 4, and conclude on Saturday, July 7, with a gigantic fireworks display.
