CHAPMANVILLE, W.Va. — Mr. George “Jabby” Boytek Sr., 88, of Chapmanville, was born October 8, 1924, at Dante, Va., a son of the late John and Katherine Emrich Boytek. He departed his life Monday, October 22, 2012, at St. Mary’s Medical Center at Huntington.
Mr. Boytek was a retired coal miner from Pittston Coal Corp., a member of the UMWA and the First Baptist Church of McConnell and attended the Striker Bible Church at Chapmanville. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army serving during World War II earning seven different campaign medals and achieving the rank of corporal. He was a Cincinnati Reds and WVU sports fan.
Also preceding him in death was a daughter, Martha Jane Boytek Asebes; an infant son, Andy Boytek, and infant grandson, Randy Joe Boytek.
Survivors include his wife, Helen Loraine Toppings Boytek; children, George Duke (Tamara) Boytek Jr., Randy (Nancy) Boytek, Marlene (Ron) Vance and Haskel Boytek, all of Chapmanville, and Joe Boytek of Logan; grandchildren, Shawn Boytek, Brandon Boytek, Jordan Boytek, Kevin Boytek, Stevie Boytek, Chad Boytek, Josie Boytek, Andrew Boytek, Sarah Asebes, John Thomas Asebes and Casey Vance; three great-granddaughters, Peyton, McKinley and Brooklyn, and son-in-law, John Asebes of Raleigh, N.C.
Services will be conducted at 2 p.m. Friday, October 26, at the First Baptist Church of McConnell with Rev. John E. Godby and Rev. Richard Tanner officiating. Burial will follow in the Highland Memory Gardens at Godby with Military Graveside Rites.
Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Thursday at the church.
Evans Funeral Home and Cremation Services at Chapmanville is serving the Boytek family in handling the arrangements.
