VERDUNVILLE, W.Va. — Harold Lee Evans Sr., 68, of Verdunville, went home to be with his Lord Saturday, December 1, 2012, while surrounded by family and friends.

Born June 19, 1944, at Verdunville, he was a son of the late Everett “Shorty” and Alberta Williams Evans. Also preceding him in death was his first wife, Mary Alice Deerfield Evans; one brother, Fredrick Clayton Evans; one special nephew, Matthew Patterson, a very special uncle, Albert “Shot” Burgess.

Harold was a coal miner for 40 years and an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to cook for his family and friends, to drive his red Ford truck and to play his guitar and sing. He was a member of Mt. Carmel Freewill Baptist Church where he was a trustee and member of the choir. He loves his church and his church family.

Survivors include his wife, Wanda Browning Evans; two daughters, Paula Butcher of Verdunville, and Sharon (Jasper) Dingess of Chapmanville; one son, Harold Lee Jr. (Sue) Evans of Whitman; one stepson, Scotty Armstrong of Waverly, Ohio; grandchildren, Ashley Butcher, Jody Butcher, Lisa Evans, Eric Evans, Grace Armstrong, Maggi Armstrong and Will Armstrong; one great-grandson, Ethan Lee Bryant; sisters, Connie (Arlie) Bush, Bonnie (Ben) Lambert, Candy (Darrell) Brewer, Tammie (Paul) Aleshire and Iva Evans; brothers, Ralph (Nellie) Evans and Gary (Christine) Evans; one very special aunt, Betty Jean Burgess, and many nieces and nephews.

Services will be held at 12:30 p.m. Wednesday, December 5, at the James Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Bobby Belcher officiating. Burial will follow at Highland Memory Gardens at Godby.

Visitation will be from 6-9 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.

Pallbearers will be Jody Butcher, Eric Evans, Ralph Evans Jr., Bub Evans, Jasper Dingess, Scotty Armstrong and Darrell Brewer.

Honorary Pallbearers will be Taylor Meade, Jim Harmon, Jimmy Clay, Bill Vannatter, Grady Moore, Benny Adkins, Carmie Vance, Teddy Hale, Richard Thompson and Richie Thompson.

James Funeral Home of Aracoma is in charge of the arrangements.
